I posted this on the first Trek thread today but to say again:
The only Star Trek I have ever seen in my life has been in the last two months. Apart from that I have never watched any Trek media of any kind:
Star Trek The Motion Picture [Five Stars, one of the best movies I have ever seen]
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan [Five Stars, one of the best action/adventure movies I have ever seen]
Why didn't someone tell me Star Trek was actually good??

>>212065927One of the worst things a show can do, especially near the end, is bring on a replacement character that offers nothing new to the dynamic. Ezri is a boring and forgettable replacement character. The writers clearly didnโt want to write a new character so they put out a casting call for someone who could fill Jadziaโs uniform. Lazy. It's about the Cardie kid, Rugal Pa'dar, the one who was raised by filthy Bajorans and taught to hate himself. The one who bit Garak. Sisko sends him back to live with the proper family he never knew, on Cardassia.

>>212089606You don't have to tell me. I only liked TOS, TAS, and the first 4 movies, and had to warm up to TNG over a long period of time. DS9, VOY, and ENT are nuTrek to me.
>>212089606True
The best Nu Trek has to offer is S3 of Picard which is just weak nostalgiabait for casuals who are too dumb to realize that none of the characters in the show even act like themselves. Stewart can't do the Picard voice anymore, there is no military bearing, it's just a bunch of grey-headed old friends off to save the galaxy. It's the TNG cast flanderized to the maximum and cast in the story of a bad TOS film and somehow it's celebrated as a good thing just because of what it's being compared to.
>>212088523because of lore overload
>>212089903Nu Trek writers know nothing about Star Trek (much like you). You can't suffer from lore overload if you don't even try to learn the lore and just disregard it entirely.
what was the purpose of giving data taste buds
well when i was watching Amok Time again I realized that this whole friendship angle was maybe not as one-sided as it first appeared to me because it's set up very quickly so you can miss it but T'Pau says that Spock is basically dead to the world because of "blood fever" and so Kirk won't be able to talk to him. but he actually does through sheer force of will manage to snap out of it to beg T'Pau (eloquently) to make an exception and not make Kirk fight. even she is surprised he's able to speak at all.
>>212088641>Didn't they put a padded bra on Jadzia's cunty actressI thought that was Jeri Ryan.
i asked this a few days ago but i was wondering if the sequels to star trek 2009 are worth watching? i liked that film quite a bit even though the story was lame
>>212089954That episode gets Spock's affection for Kirk across very effectively I thought
>>212090002All the JJ films are shit, including the one you liked.
>>212089931You're why the shows can't be good anymore.
And why the show should completely reboot with news characters and species instead of trying to appease people like you where nothing will ever be "accurate" enough.
Then the process can start all over again.
>>212088425just for you I'm recasting the character to be Olivia Munn.
>>212090069same actor who played Picard in Rascals. it was the first thing I noticed
>>212089931Star Trek has a long-standing policy of not hiring fans to work on the show. There's too much trouble with "purity" and other defiance of the chain of command. Your rant is a perfect example of why they have this policy.

>>212090040No, you're just not a fan of Star Trek. You don't want Star Trek, you want something else -- but for some reason you parasitically latch onto the Star Trek fanbase and try to change it from one thing into another instead of just making something new.
Just go make a new The Expanse, or Babylon 5. A new IP.
The Orville is Star Trek with all of the lore dumped -- do you think it's better that way? Do you think The Orville would be a worse show if it was Star Trek and used familiar races and the Trek lore?
I personally think it'd be better
>>212090069Why the hell did Jean-Luc not tap his widowed sister-in-law? Some Frenchman.
>>212090109Ronald D Moore (showrunner of DS9) was a huge TOS fan and he made the best star trek series

I'm going to "No U" you and say that *you* are not a fan of Star Trek. You're a fan of Spock. Of Bat'leths. Of the warp scale. That you can't separate those things from the spirit of Star Trek says everything.

>>212075059The way First Contact is shot and cast I'm fairly certain they just wanted to do a BOBW film and a film that had scenes with Zefram Cochrane in it and didn't really care how they got there. It's been years since I've seen it but I don't think they even establish how the Borg travel through time, the Borg sphere just sort of does it. The first Terminator had a similar issue which is why they established a few restrictions and it still deosn't really make sense.
>>212090221What? You see consoles burst into flames every week and somehow you think shit doesn't burn anymore in the 24th century?

>>212090741>Are you claiming it was better before? Or even tolerable?Sure, we had like a solid 6 hours or so of a quality /trek/ thread. It was a good run. I'm guessing wagey was in his cagey.
>>212090688>consoles burst into flames every weekonly when they're hit by photon torpedos and disruptors and shit
a house in a random countryside shouldn't be catching on fire randomly and even if it does, they should have space fire detectors or some shit

>>212090963you just said some dumb casualfag misconception.
Kirk did not bed a new alien chick in "most episodes". He had several, but not anywhere close to "most". Also some of those aliens were 100% visually identical to humans.
I never heard of this show until I stumbled on it in memory alpha
Why doesn't anybody talk about it?
>>212091044Probably because most people ITT are over the age of 12 and don't actively discuss Pixar shit. Also I don't even think you can watch it anymore. didn't it get taken off Paramount+?
>>212091015I think Kirk fucking a new piece of alien trim every week is more true to Gene's vision than what we actually got, which makes it purer than the truth could ever be.
>>212091022Which nuTrek character is this?
i stopped watching ds9 after evil o'brien doppelganger creeped on the little girl in ds9's laundromat. i know he was supposed to be evil, but there's a line, and the show crossed it
>>212091139>I thinkand I think you should learn more about the things you want to talk about so you don't sound like a fucking retard when you discuss them
Kirk ACTUALLY fucked an alien a grand total of 2 times I remember. And one time was when he married her first

was spock retarded?
>>212091255Are you not counting 100% human "aliens"?

Watching Arena blindly and we've got Gul Dukat and Quark as his sniveling henchman hanging out in the equivalent of Vic's. It's throwing me for a loop.

Remember to take a moment each day to thank Lazarus for spending eternity fighting his schizo counterpart, so that two universes might continue.
Family right after Best of Both Worlds proves TNG could have had longer arcs.
>>212092758The cardassian makeup gave the illusion of a strong, square jawline.
Watching Apocalypse Rising. They missed an opportunity to put Jadzia into sexy female Klingon garb.
>>212093754They couldn't. Terry Farrel's skin bursts into flames on contact with Klingon makeup or something like that. Hence, why they used Odo instead of Jadzia.
>>212093910What a shame, would have been interesting to see her as a Klingon.
>>212094094Yeah, but the episode did a great job to highlight that Odo was still in the zone as an investigator and didn't necessarily need his shapeshifting abilities to smoke out other goo people.

>>212094140I'm not saying it needs to be either/or with Odo and Jadzia just that she had so much background with Klingons she probably would've done a good job pretending to be one.

>denise okuda was in TMP as an extra
wtf I never knew this
What should the plot for Star Trek 4 be? Should they save the whales again?
>>212096315All of those extras were Trek fans as far as I know.
Plus, they made a huge painting showing the back of the Enterprise and spacedock to put in the windows running along the back wall of that scene, and then in the film you can barely see it with the people standing in front of it.
