I did enjoyed the "how cement is made" theme so much that I went out to see how cement is made. So kind to let me tour. These plants are so big! But, you can also make it at home in your kitchen ! There is a lot of pounding and grinding and it gets really hot. (No, really!) The huge red pipe thing spins it's called the rotary kiln. Yes it's one big oven at 1450 C with a metal shell and a layer of stone on the inside, the raw limestone meal flows through here and turns into clinker (lots of chunks) which is then ground again and mixed up with gypsum to give you the final cement powder ! We could have another theme like that one of these threads. Are there any cement bots yet? Shall I makie one myself ?
