Compare piers to past dark type trainers and it's night and day. The past 4 look like normal humans that you'd meet in real life more or less but then there's piers who looks like a skeleton with skunk hair stapled on it, I can't tell if his hair is based on something or not like maybe it's obstagoon but it just doesn't work
