I think they wanted to can RR for a while now and they are finally using an excuse to not make it. Expect the next announcement to be RR officially being axed in favor of the new game mode.

The reality is that it's an extremely shitty game mode that probably no more than 5% of the playerbase ever bothered to play more than once, and a good chunk never bother at all(director himself hasn't played it on his main account).
It's not worth the dev time, might as well get rid of it. Only the retards really cared about it and thought it was some kind of a metric for ''endgame''.
