The vast majority of devs are incompetent hacks and even if they weren't, the end product is almost always a compromise between a billion conflicting factors and constraints. There's no vision. If there's a vision, it's by glorified amateurs sniffing their own farts. Modders are no different.

Therefore, a vanilla game has no more intrinsic value to me than a modded game.
