It's really simple: Every few years, gamers/games journalists get really self-conscious that they are playing/writing about things that are typically lowbrow, and so will massively boost for some game as super high art so they can feel good about playing serious literature. The issue is, these games are usually midwit-tier pseud affairs, so with time people realize the forced narrative they pushed. This happens because people are too self conscious and refuse to just accept they like playing something that's fun or that they like something kinda silly.
