If they wanted to play it safe they wouldn't bother attempting Daggerfall 2.0 knowing that it almost killed one of the devs back then. Just churn out new Skyrims, they'd still get called lazy but the difference is they'll get lots of easy money and awards

It's also much safer to just slap some sex and fanservice, gamers will overlook a lot if you cater to that. Now that females are openly gooning, devs everywhere gets double the audience
