I love nip aesthetic, but you are correct : western knights were superior in every conceivable way, especially when it cames to training and tactics. Japs were very impressed by portuguese & spanish knights first times they exchanged in skirmishes. And katanas couldn't hold a candle vs swords.
Idk if you have watched it, but to settle the debate there was a competition confronting the best nip kendo martial artist VS the swordman finalist of rapiere dueling in an olympic setup who took place not long ago in Japan.
The rapiere swordman literally anally raped the kendofag, poor nip couldn't do anything. Only points he marked was when he was kamikazing himself like a W40K orc, jumping on the rapiere dude like a monke.
