I guess you could say that wasn't a Ys decision!
But really, yes it was a dick move for Falcom to do that without a way to upgrade from the standard version. Makes me glad that I'm not a Ys guy.

6 or 10.
6 has the big cast with unique gimmicks (as a fighting game fan, Sabin is awesome) and X has that great core story and "turn based with visible turn order" combat that is peak RPG combat for me.
