My mom is trying to start a "business" by flipping vintage items on Ebay and Facebook Marketplace, which she chose to do primarily because she likes antiques. She's spent hundreds and only made like $25 from selling one book, but she keeps adding more inventory. This is after another failed business venture where she and another lady tried to flip old medical devices without realizing that they needed permits and would face high shipping costs.
She's upset every day because she constantly checks her listings and gets angry when nobody has viewed any of her items. My dad has a high income, but she's adamant that she needs to generate income even though it could hurt my dad's taxes, although she refuses to get into retail or do online tutoring (which she's perfectly qualified to do)
She's now thinking about getting into day trading because she knows that I do it. However, she has absolutely no idea how much money you need to invest to get any significant returns, and she'd probably freak out at my trading funds even though it's nothing compared to most of you.
What the fuck do I do? She is driving me nuts, wasting money, and hurting her mental and physical health. It doesn't help that she's been a Facebook addict for over a decade after she discovered that she could access it on her phone.
