People gatekeep because the CoD audience/playerbase is a shitty playerbase. They enable some of the worse developer behaviors imaginable. Its why EA keeps chasing them. CoD sports horrible skins, yearly releases where nothing changes, retarded monetization, etc. They're the fifa of FPS games. You've got these CoD games with negative to mixed reviews, yet its playerbase still spends millions out the ass on these games. Cause they're so stupid and addicted.

2042 was a result of unrestrained chasing of the CoD crowd. They showed their hand with that game. If you like 2042, good for you. But it was a shit game for a majority of people. Along those same lines, the past 4 battlefield games were quickly abandoned by DICE because they died (revenue wise). As they went hard for the CoD crowd, and the CoD crowd went back to CoD after a year.Then you have things like commander mode being removed because it was deemed "too complicated" for this audience. CoD players hate vehicles on top of this. Ever see how much they seethe when dying to a jet or helicopter? Its hilarious. Its also why we're getting 5/9 maps in Bf6 was "small" and "infantry focused" maps. To appeal to this playerbase. Every iteration they nerf tactical skill displays, vehicles, and strategy. To appeal to this CoD playstyle.

The core of what makes "CoD, CoD" and what makes "Battlefield, Battlefied" are not compatible. And the past 12 years of BF failures is evidence of this. Yet they keep trying cause retard money is too good
