Yeah unlocking detachments seemed like a good move, and probably is for a lot of armies. But for Space Marines specifically it's been pointless.

Every major Codex-compliant Chapter has a detachment clearly themed for them, but it often ends up being more effective in less fluffy ways. And the non-compliant Chapters, how often has their best detachment not even been in their fucking supplement?
