Nailed it. Its rarely if ever about you if someone is nasty and evil towards you. Rather it is a reflection of who they are as a person and their upbringing.
No one is against you, OP. They are simply for themselves, whether they are fair about it or not. I wish someone had told me this simple truth earlier in life, it would have made things more more understandable.
