It's a tool in their kit that most any organization that works with "tulpas" has. You can't destroy spirits anyways without "weapons", unless you are of a very specific group of people. I can save you the trouble of fighting something like that in vain and instead implore you to ask God for a similar ordeal.

I say in vain because you don't understand how the strings work. Such a tool doesn't possess people nor do you need a spirit to possess someone in today's day and age(to puppet someone).
