I literally never seen this claim about the anime, most people love it on /a/ and the main complains about it I've seen are the animation and some people that would have preferred Shocker not being real in the show.
Personally I like it because so far it reminds me of the author's previous anime Air Master which I enjoyed a lot, I haven't read any of his manga though. This anime is also interesting in the sense that the premise is similar to a rejected setting that was pitched twice before, once by the original creator and the other time by Hurricaneger's writer, so it's interesting seeing it actually realized. Also like many toku-inspired anime you can tell that the staff is extremely passionate despite their low budget which is another bonus for me.
