retail wow is fully segregated. pvpers dont ever have to do anything but pvp, m+ers dont ever have to do anything but m+ and raiders dont ever have to do anything but raid. ironically, mogsmountscheevos is the only thing you still need to interact with other parts of the game to do. on top of that the amount of qol features in the game has completely destroyed the world and the community, it is a lobby system for 3 subpar games that are individually inferior to any other multiplayer game in the market.
how do you pitch wow to a new player?

yeah, no wonder the game is dead. the coolest thing about classic is the world, and yeah its an illusion and the game itself is really still a lobby simulator with much worse endgame but no one cares because the illusion makes a difference. it FEELS like a world, so it is one.
