Don't know what your definition of poor is but where far from it

California is kind of exception though. It's economy is larger than the UK , France or Italy despite having less people. But the reason it's so high is because it belongs to most of the big tech giants are headquartered there.

If anything Mexicans are dead weight to the California economy and they would be better off with less of them. Literally the least skilled and least educated migrants.
