Pay attention to your own taste, be it in video games and novels and make a link to different historical gods, also pay attention to synchronicities, if you keep seeing spiders or webs around you or even people nearby talking about them it's a huge fucking signboard telling you "I'm Here", lastly if you think about a god who is the first one that come to your head.
It isn't 100% reliable and you'll have to research what they are like, what they stand for, where they come from and so on but it's pretty much your calling the same way the guy above mentioned Islam is what helped him, out there, something is there for you, watching and waiting, I don't know why, it just is.
The advantage, in theory, is that once you found "The One" then your occult pass should progress again with more results and in an intimate relationship with them.
Once again this is all my very personal opinion and the conclusion I came with from direct experience and I'm not out of trouble myself yet so take it with a grain of salt and a potential avenue to check.
