From what I know, a situation that could only be described as the "real-life Marik incident" happened at the Japan Championship
A report was raised that the player played the Championship, and the one that competed at the Shop qualifiers were different people sharing the same ID
Under investigation from the store at question, and some witness reports, it was confirmed these were two different individuals, and were promptly banned from the shop
And the Shop raised notice to KONAMI
I would presume this is what is at hand, but would need to cross-reference

It's not that different from what happened in 2009 with the Griffith event.
