If you subscribe to the idea that Lucy, Ghoul, and Maximus represent 3 types of players it makes sense. Lucy is the retarded noob who slowly realizes how shitty and unforgiving the wastes are. Maximus is the bread and butter "I wanna be the hero" retard player who makes comical choices and fails upwards (but it's fun). The Ghoul is the guy that has played NV for years and know the game inside and out.
Framed like this it makes sense why the show has a broad appeal and why the show works better than other slop vidja adaptations. Literally "7/10 something for everyone"
