The ritual of circumcision come from the Galli priests of the eastern goddess Cybeles who were cross-dressing eunuchs. They would cut their genitals off as an offering to the goddess during in extatic dances.
Then when castration became forbidden in the roman empire, they turned to alternatives. This is what circumcision is, an euphemism , a lessened form of castration. Do not believe muslims for ex who will tell you it's because of medical reasons.
