At the end of the pilot/first episode, we can see the computer inside which the Circus operates, and there is no woman sitting in the chair or lying on the floor with a headset. In fact, the headset is set aside next to the screen. The 'real Pomni' put on the headset out of curiosity, saw some strange screen that led nowhere, and took off the headset, leaving it where it was, unaware that a copy of her consciousness was generated in the program. I defend the theory that the players are all virtual copies of human consciousness.
