Budget was already tight with episode 5's whole bunch of minute-used maps and whole anime segment so I doubt goose got enough money to make three whole separate endings where two would be discarded anyway
Personally I think it's Caine damage controlling from he previous award show poll. He doesn't want to accept the final results so instead of calling it all off or automatically giving himself the win he chooses to initiate another award show event to hype the stakes of next episode instead, nothing might come out of this at all but we'll see once the episode drops
