I think it just comes down to modders doing it “for free” to be honest. But they subconsciously think they deserve something for putting in so much time for their “work”. All humans expect compensation or at least appreciation for the time invested into something. But modding doesn’t bring monetary compensation in the same way, say art commissions do for Twitter/X artists for example. So modders want recognition and respect from the community instead as a form of compensation in a backwards way.
