They were shown leaving the car right before Megatron stomps it. Normally the explosion and the shrapnel would injure or kill them but this is a comic. I see it as the creators presenting it in a way that they can deny people died if they get into trouble for it.

I want an Autobot Starscream who acts as the Squidward/D&D Cavalier of the group. The jackass teammate who gets his comeuppance for his personality flaws, but who occassionally shows enough competence and redeeming qualities that neither the readers nor the characters question why he is being tolerated.
I don't want him to go down Drift's path and become some noble fighter or to go Armada Starscream's route and show that he was noble underneath all along.
But I also don't want him trying to usurp Optimus or not being afraid of Megatron anymore.
