I've been to 4 different states in America and found the same as OP.

I also found a number of other things.

You do get larger portions of food in diners but that is where the good stuff ends.
The Burgers are tasteless and only improved by the shit loads of other stuff like sauces that are piled upon them, same goes for Hotdogs, American hotdogs tend to be beef (I think pork is not Kosher in the USA) again the flavour comes from the other ingredients.

Groceries are expensive, compared to Britain and once you get to the checkout it rises even more because they hide 'sales tax'!

Like OP says, the beer is also tasteless, no idea why? And they seem to think Heineken is good Euro Beer but there is no flavour to it, bit of a shock, it's pretty hum drum in Britain but at least you can taste it.

It also reeks of poverty but that's another story.

Nice to visit but I wouldn't want to live there.

Yes it's long but worth listening to.
