That's pretty much what the Leagues of Votann are; DAOT mining ships were sent to the galactic core, with dwarf colonists and supercomputers called Votann. The Votann oversee everything and create new dwarves as they see fit, who see the Votann as their ancestor. They also create robots that are treated the same as the flesh dwarves.
