I think they where more contemporary in their beliefs so they decided to side-step having to introduce some religious tie for them by making it just science dressed up with religious theming. Like if they had them worship something that something would have lore implications towards something that really exists in the kirby universe.
I don't think they would have worshipped elfilis because they where genuinely above him, like its important to remember that a complete elfilis got bitched by the new worlds people somehow even with his mind powers and ability to rift space time.
