>deliberately select for the most tame and sedate dogs within a purebreed and breed them over many generations (nobody really does this because breed standards also encompass temperament)
>deform their body, whether it be airways, legs, back, chest, arms
>slam them down to toy size - deer head chihuahuas, toy fox terriers, chinese crested, miniature pinschers, papillons, toy manchester terrier, pomeranians, italian greyhounds, toy aussies/pomskies. they're not 'deformed' per-se, they have healthy body plans that happen to be tiny so they have less energy and expend more to move small distances + many were bred for companionship and not for vermin control
