We couldn't be any more different.
You said such things reduced tension. I'd say the interaction were there because it's good to see characters bonding and understanding each other, until the turn where Sephiroth goes mad and the relationship broke up. The key point here is TRAGIC.
And I disagree with you that it is lacking tension. The moments were still there: Sephiroth is not Zack-level chatty, and he is remembering secret things. The bridge fell and one of their friend died. It was ominous since the beginning that this isn't going well. Are we playing the same fucking game?
Why do you have to read everything negatively? Do you need physics lesson to explain how Star Wars FTL works?
