Nibelheim is meant to be the equivalent of a southern US town despite the name. Tifa wears a cowboy hat and her dad dresses like a southern gentlemen, she eventually puts the TEXAS sign over her bar in Sector 7, Cloud is frequently referred to as a backwoods country boy by NPCs. Cloud's late game catchphrase becomes "let's mosey" which is distinctly southern talk. I think the OG translation bungled some of this and the REmake(s) just blatantly ignored it so they could give everyone chink sameface.
