You’re trusting an outdated instinct that’s only validated by the news broadcasting what is normally extremely rare cases into the sphere of discussion every day. This isn’t to say that I don’t understand the feeling; my neighbor’s got an 80 lb pit bull he lets off leash and it’ll bound over to me when it sees me if we’re outside at the same time. I know this animal could take off fingers or tear out my calf if it had a mind to, but I reach down and pet it anyway. Even with an animal, and as unpredictable as they can be, I trust it and put out a good behavior because I’d rather live that way. I could recoil or scold my neighbor or avoid going outside and generally be a pussy about it to maximize my safety, but I’d rather just show mutual respect and friendliness with it and go about my day. Honestly, most people could kill you if they had a mind to, you don’t need to be stronger or bigger to do so. Why let what can’t be changed control you? There’s risk in all existence and it’s gonna end regardless, you can let that get you down or just live your life.
