I have/had several Indian/Nepalese/Bangladeshi friends in Tokyo. Prior to the post-covid immigration changes, the only ones who came (or could come) to the country where interesting, intelligent, motivated, scrupulous people. The cream of the crop so to speak. One of them was a beloved bartender who owned one of the most legendary and famous rock bars in the city for 40 years, known to bands and travelers and locals alike from every continent on earth. Sadly it finally closed down due to the actions of a certain zaibatsu chewing up the land and regurgitating it into soulless sterile globalized Beverly Hills-esque corposchlock, like the plot of a bad 80s movie was turned into an instruction manual. For a shining period of several decades, Tokyo matched the perfect ideal of what a genuine unironically "vibrant" city should, and could, be. It's still great now, but things are going to get worse before they get better.
