I never understood how people can say this with such certainty. I mean it's a gigantic universe out there, so vast we don't even know if it has an end (though it probably does). I get not believing all that conspiracy shit about aliens living among us or area 51 bodies or whatever, but the chances there's at least a few planets that lucked out like Earth did have to be high, right? Even if their current level of intelligence is a bunch of dinosaurs or apes.
And even if we try to imagine aliens more advanced than us, not enough for FTL travel, but enough to send a probe out in space, so what? Imagine how much faster humans could have developed with our raw intelligence if we were more cooperative and didn't have any cataclysms to slow down ascent as the dominant species on Earth. Maybe the aliens were just luckier and got to space exploration tech before we did.
