When the Ayatolla is no more, and when the rest of his Twelvers are no more, the theocratic regime in Iran immediately collapses. That is decapitation. It opens the path for another regime to take its place, perhaps a more democratic regime, if Iranians know what is good for them.
Also, there are millions of Iranians in Iran and who fled abroad who remember what Iran was like before the authoritarian theocracy usurped control of Iran.
