That sums up my feelings when playing YIIK, both the original and 1.5. The artstyle is unique, the OST is genuinely good, and the themes might be ripped from Murakami but they're still pretty unique to vidya. It's just so frustrating when the game mechanics and surface-level plot suck so hard that they distract from everything else.
Whenever my friends ask me about it, I tell them that I like the idea of YIIK more than YIIK itself. Such missed potential.
