That's really the reason why these Doom Engine expansions don't really click with me at all, it even applies to Wolf 3D's Nocturnal Missions since they're all just the base game being stretched out till you can't anymore, with the only new things being levels and a couple of textures. Plutonia and Thy Flesh Consumed being the couple of really good ones.
I'm sure there's like 30 years worth of people bitching about what I'm talking about but had Doom 2 released as a standalone expansion with like 20 maps instead of 30, it would've been better standard for expansions in comparison the ones we got.
