I think it's because so many people help them.

I actually went out with a girl, then she ghosted me. Then I ran into her (it's a small town) and I was cool about it and she mentioned that she was in the process of moving. So I said I have a truck maybe I could help.

I show up on saturday. Her brother helps me load up some furniture in my truck and his truck, and we move her into her apartment. Afterwards, I didn't want to make it weird by hanging out so I just left.

Years later - like probably 5 years later maybe - I've continued to run into her and her friends and we've chatted and been friendly. Someone makes a joke about ikea and I ask her if she still has that ikea chair.

She looks at me like a creep - she was seriously considering the possibility that I was breaking into her house at night or stalking her or something. I remind her, "I helped you move once, remember"

She does not. She seemingly has no memory of that event.
