I'd like to add that, as it stands now, no new MH completely supplants prior entries. I think it's hard to make the case that you're missing out on anything if you pick the series up from MHFU. But starting with Gen 4, you'd miss out on underwater combat. Generations/Rise has the Styles/Wirebugs. And World has some of the best exploration. These are all unique aspects that aren't replicated in subsequent entries.
