Patty's behavior in the video never made sense.
According to P/G, Patterson dismounted after he saw the creature and started running after it with his camera. Gimlin was first following him on horseback but then also dismounted and started to follow Patterson as he was running after it. According to Patterson he came about 25 feet (7.6 m) away from the creature at his closest, while Patterson came 60 feet (18m) at his closest to the creature.
I've never heard of a wild animal that would just calmly walk away with its back turned as humans (together with their horses) are running after it and approaching it at 25 feet. Especially not a supposedly notoriously elusive and skittish creature.
The entire thing looks staged.
