IMO Death Stranding was always about enjoying the art direction, landscapes, sound design etc. rather than punishing gameplay.

The gameplay systems are a great vehicle for immersion. I get why people want something harsh and difficult like an obscure Stalker mod where everything breaks every 5 seconds and resources are scarce. It's just not the vision behind these games. They're more like being in a museum and looking around. Pretentious as it may sound the games are very good at being just that.

There's plenty of unique little mechanics, it's a very "videogamey" experience but it's also like an interactive painting or something like that.
