the problem is that trannies and big tech are currently doing everything they can to sabotage free software. here are some examples:
rust
GNOME
freedesktop
wayland
flatpak/snap/pip/all third party package managers
garbage packaging like on ubuntu
"user friendly" nonsense that randomly breaks and just gets in your way, not telling you where the problem is, just as bad as windows, keeping users computer illiterate and not actually letting them learn how to fix anything if shit breaks
systemd
pulseaudio
XDG
GTK
QT
valve infecting almost every lunix computer with their steam malware
if you want to get around any of that, you have to do it yourself, and it WILL cost you some convenience, which is why almost no distro is gonna do that by default.
with gentoo, you can choose how much potential convenience but unnecessary broken bullshit you want to have. i chose to remove wayland and rust from my system entirely because i don't want to touch any of that, but systemd and pipewire are actually nice, so i like to keep those and don't want to go with meme distros that don't actually give me a real choice. i don't want hyperbola to tell me "YOU HAVE TO use a BSD kernel" or "YOU HAVE TO use openRC", i'm not a kid.
this is more important to me than optimization, optimization is just a nice bonus for me to have.
i don't want rust in my kernel, and i can realistically kick it out without doing everything manually.
i don't like uganda donation popups in vim? i can write a 5 line patch to remove this automatically, which will persist during vim updates or reinstalls.
and yeah bazzite has 'guard rails' for 12 year old zoomers who would run random malware off the internet, preventing them from running an obfuscated 200M "minecraft_free_download.sh" that fucks up their system entirely.
oh also FYI, bazzite has a tranny mascot, keep in mind that this distro is specifically trying to appeal to kids.
