Battlefield 3 is a masterpiece

I remember when this was released, BF2 Boomers said it's like CoD and made fun of it for it's farting intro and blue tint filter.
Now people claim it was the last good battlefield game in the series. What has changed? Is it simply blinding nostalgia?
