My situation is not comparable to yours big boy. I'm an immigrant born and raised here and married a local who was from a small city so moving to that small city in question wasn't that frightening. What was scary was finding work in my niche field and taking into consideration travel time to get to work.

My advice: the shittier the suburb the more they want you to move there. If you go on the council page and there's a link to investing in the area/starting a business, it's likely to be cooked.

Houses in Gippsland are cheap but they require work to fix as many of them are old. I hope you've got cash or are good with your hands.
