I think you are a bit too ossified when it comes to religion. There are various saints that are associated with the well taking care of animals like saint Francis. Not to mention Jesus whole association with taking care of flocks of sheeps and shepardism in general. That we should treat others like a good Shepard treats his sheep and vis versa.
OFC I wouldnt say animal care is a fundamental part of core chrisitan theology, its much more about the human's unique capacity to control the intents of their actions and the redressing of sins you have, but its a totally common secondary expression of that nature.
Also, Paganism to my knowledge of greeco-roman and germanic mythos aren't particularly concerned with good animal care either.
