dude it's been that way since forever. men showing emotions is something that started with the boomers, probably because a lot of them were on the ass end of two generations of men who fought world wars. some of those old boys were kinda rough, and that's putting it mildly. it came to the fore in the 1980s and they were called 'new age males' or 'new age men'. i remember this because i was there.
