You sure we haven't all just gotten older and learned more about the sorry state of the world through the hip new thing called social media?

Because I don't know anymore. I feel like it was fine when the TV remarked on big important things like wars relevant to the country. Now with social media, I feel like everyone is getting lured into echo chambers via insidious marketing so data profiling can be used to make money.
More than just the TV and the newspaper trying to influence people, I feel like social media has done it way, way better, and for the worse for everyone involved.
Political influence making people lose their goddamn minds over things media tells them are important, so they lose sight of their local communities and social circles. Uncle John is now a right-wing-partizan-ai-loving-antisocialite-trump-terrorist-buzzwords, instead of an odd uncle who's got some personal values that clash with the family but brings good food to family dinners and has fun stories about his thrifting hobby.

The general feeling of hopelessness when looking at one's own country and the surroundings. My old man went out to protest and got his nose caved in by police a few times. The protesting got some shit done at least. Now, I feel like we're all more aware of how little our actions feel like they do. They're still important... but it feels a lot worse now, at least according to my old man.
