I owned one, but I was the only kid I knew that had one. A friend was going to buy one, but ended up getting a PlayStation instead because it was cheaper/more games.
Even though I was the only kid that one had, my friends used to visit often and loved playing Die Hard Arcade, VF2, Daytona and Athlete Kings. It was a fun console.
When I went to high-school it was 1999 and the Dreamcast was out, and most friends were waiting on PS2, but I met one person who did have a Saturn and lended me Die Hard Trilogy to, which was fun.

As others have said, at first it was common enough to see in stores and at rental places, but after a year or two it quickly fell off in popularity. I couldn't find games to rent anywhere and most retailers didn't have it apart from Electronics Boutique or other specialists like Games Men or Games Wizards (Ausfag). By 1997 or 1998 I sometimes got a game sent from England by some relatives who were travelling there for Xmas or the like, that's how I got Shining Force III and Last Bronx.
