I wouldn't be so harsh on those minis personally. There is a certain charm to cleaner, more simple sculpts too.
And there is absolutely overdetailed (digital) sculpts with slapped on textures for the sake of it.
You just have to find the ones you personally like and enjoy to paint and ignore what you consider shit.
