There are millions of intelligent species in the known universe. We have made contact with some of them, but they generally avoid interacting with us as much as they can because are absolutely terrified of humans.
All of these species, many of them far more intelligent than the smartest humans, used their versions of logic and rationality and science to solve all of the unknowns except one. They were all able to determine that there had to be some entity, some being who existed outside of time and space as we know it, even outside of the transdimensional realm, a "something" that created the universe.
But that's where they got stuck. They knew there must be some uncreated creator, an unmoved mover as Aristotle described it thousands of years ago. But they couldn't figure out anything beyond that. The nature of this creator was entirely unknown. It was just considered the one unanswerable question.
But the interesting thing is that out of all of these millions of advanced, intelligent species, there are only a handful who do anything close to a religious ritual. And only one species in the entire universe, humans, who pray and have verifiable religious experiences.
So in this random corner of the universe, they found us, a fairly unimpressive, not very advanced species. It didn't take long for them to realize that not only did we have answers to this seemingly unanswerable question about this mysterious Creator of everything, we are able to communicate with Him.
One faction of the other species isn't sure what is going on but thinks we need to be destroyed because this is all just too weird.
Another faction thinks humans are the key to understanding everything and are the most important species in the universe.
Most of then don't know what should be done with us, and think we need to be left alone and quarantined until they can figure it out.
